Show CORRECTION OF UTAH TAX STATUTES IS URGED State Auditor Ririe Offers Suggestions In Biennial Report IT IS the intention of State Auditor Joseph Kirie to present measures to the iiiioming legislature to correct ambiguous statutes affecting taxation. Announcement of his purpose is made by Mr. Ririe in his biennial report, which was filed in the office of (Governor Hambergcr today. Chief of his recommendations is one to make the terms of county auditors, county treasurers and county assessors four years instead of two. " The salaries paid in many counties of the state," the auditor says, "do not justify efficient men to seek these positions, with the result that the records in these counties are in a very unsatis- fjrlorv rondition." Another condition i-rit icised is that under w hit h much property in the state escapes taxation. '"Owing to the fact that t thousand or acre oi lami nae rr . cars nwn escaping taxation, which condition ia true bf the livestock of ihts state, 1 would recommend a tax commission of I three expert men to devote their entire en-tire time to supervise and toasist all county asuessors in a uniform and I cqultahlt method of stressing property prop-erty and revising their mafia and plats, for which service t hey should receive a good s;ilary. 1 am opposed- to appointed ap-pointed boards drawing a fair salary and only devoting a day now and then to the work of such great responsibility," responsi-bility," In conclusion the auditor says he is heartily in favor of the budget sstcm, which will be in effect during the approaching ap-proaching blennium, and he advocates reduction of expenses to ihe state by consolidating some offices and changing chang-ing the duties of others. He especially urges that the several drnartments and MHie instil ut ions be not allowed to expend more than the amount appropriated appro-priated to them.
