Show ALLEGED BANDIT ; SHOT BY POLICE IN PISTOL DUEL HELD by the police on an open charge, Ben Bishop, 19 years of ace, and L. J. Hale, 18, were arrested last night at 2118 South State street, after having essayed the real role of bandits, the officers say. To other alleged offenses they are charged with hayingdrawa.guntonth. officers and opening iireia an effort to resist arrest. As a result, Ben Bishop is at the emergency hospital 1 with a lacerated cheek and mouth, caused by a bullet going through the fleshy part of the face near the left ear. j ( Officers J. J. Blair were detailed to South State street wlKn it was reported that two young men were stealing yasoline froiiKa garage at the address h s i veil" When the police reached the place" Ihe young men opened fire on fliem and the officers returned the fire. Alter it was all over and the alleged miscreants were apprehended, it was found that neither of the officers had sustained any injury, but that Ben Bishop had been struck in the left cheek by a bullet, which had entered the roof of his mouth. The young man was given prempt and helpful attention at the emergency hospital, but the seriousness of the wound will not.b determmed untiljurther examination by the police surgeon. -. '" Previous to the shooting escapade the boys are said to have , stolen from a point on Third North street an automobile belonging to the Christensen Shoe company, 15 East Broadway. They are said to have driven the stolen machine to 2118 South State street to a garage there and were in the act of helping themselves to gasoline when the alarm waV turned in. . ' |
