Show LAWYERS ARGUE i PICKET RIGHTS WASHINGTON, March 1 M" The contention that "there is no constitutional guarantee of the right to picket" was presented to the supreme court today. Laurence W. Carr, district attorney at-torney of Shasta county, California, Califor-nia, added that the only right guaranteed guar-anteed by the constitution in this connection "is a right to disseminate dissemi-nate the facts concerning a labor dispute without abusive and arbitrary arbi-trary restriction." He defended a Shasta county ordinance or-dinance which he said "prohibits picketing in a public place, near the scene of a labor controversy and for purposes which may cause friction." . Hit position was disputed by Lee Pressman, counsel for the CIO, who contended the ordinance prohibited pro-hibited "peaceful picketing" and therefore "abridges fundamental civil liberties." |
