Show Smoky Headache . Burning Leaves to Blame For S. Ls 'Hazy' Look Have you wondered what Is causing the haze over Salt Lake City lately T That hase Is the city's annual headache smoke from the burning burn-ing of leaves. - A total of 228 leaf fires In various vari-ous parts of the city was counted Monday, according to William L. Butler, chief engineer, city power and heating division. The- amount tabulated represents, repre-sents, probably leas than half of the fires that were set during the day, Mr. Butler said. He pointed out that although city ordinances do not specifically prohibit burning of leaves and trash, they do forbid burning anything any-thing which results in smoke. ' "It Is next to impossible for resident to burn leaves or trash without smoke," he said, adding that leaves are full of moisture and It ia Impossible to get a uniform uni-form amount of oxygen to facilitate facili-tate combustion.
