Show Forcing Them to Stand Under the Red Banner The CIO has ousted two of its left wing unions, the United Electrical Workers and tbe Farm Equipment Workers. It has also adopted resolution resolu-tion instructing its executive board "to take appropriate action to protect the CIO" from persons following tbe line of , "the Communist party, any Fascist, organization or other totalitarian move-, menf Thla authorisation envisions expulsion of nine or 10 other left wing unions still in the CIO, although a few of these might be permitted to clean house and stay within the C I O fold. Next step In the left-right split will undoubtedly be the formation of new labor federation embracing all the Communist-controlled , or Communist-following Communist-following labor unions. A bitter battle will then ensue between the left wing unions and the right wing AFL and CIO organizations. The leftist union will be the targets for all-out raids on the part of other labor groups. Already the CJ O has set up a new International Union of Electrical, Radio and Machine Workers to' carry on the battle to strip ' the United Electrical Workers of its members. Already a number of U E W locals have voted to Join the new right Wing CIO electrical workers' union. - This CIO action in ousting the leftist unions is excellent. It deprives these. anti-American unions of their CIO cloak of reputabllity. It seta them up as targets for the concentrated fire of all opponents of Communist influence influ-ence in. industry and labor. Like the Communist party itself, these red or pinkish labor organizations must now raise the standard of the hammer, and sickle and stand under it openly, not secretly. We suspect this . action . is the beginning of the end for Communist-controlled Communist-controlled labor in America. It may take a few years, but eventually we are confident that loyal American workers and energetic anti-Communist labor together will purge these unions of their Communist or fellow traveler leadership. |
