With demands that the British leave Egypt, students and sympathizers take possession of part of the city of Cairo without opposition from police. The rioters terrorized ter-rorized the capital, many fires were started and considerable damage resulted. Similar riots later broke out in Alexandria, site of a great British naval base. While the riots did not have government backing, little effort was made to prevent or control the demonstrations against the British government. |
