There were 11,000 shares, of Southern Pacific sold at the I opening at 654 and 65, compared with 64 last night and 6600 shares of Rock Island at 364 and 36. compared with 364 last night M. K. & T. rose a point and the preferred 14. Amalgamated Copper was In large demand at an extreme advance ad-vance of a half. Otherwise the dealings were on rather a moderate scale and the advances were restricted to within' 4. except ex-cept for St. Louis and San Francisco second sec-ond preferred which roee 2, Pacific Mail 14 and Mexican Central and Realty large fractions. - U. S. Steel opened up a but Immediately lost it. Republio Steel declined de-clined a and Sugar ran off after a small opening gain. Very large profit-taking went on after the opening, especially in stocks most active ac-tive on the rise yesterday, and some others were pulled back below last night. Others stocks were pushed forward to support the realizing, notably Southern Railway, which met enormous blocks at 36, one sale of 12.800 shares being recorded at that figure. Heavy selling was renewed after 12 o'clock with the principal pressure directed di-rected against the United States Steel stocks. The co.nmon stock dropped to near 26 and St. Paul. 8o-i Union and Rock Island touched their low est prices. Kansas & Texas preferred rose 4 and reacted 3. Realtv 1 and Chesapeake & Ohio. Illinois Central, Rock Island preferred. pre-ferred. Tobacco preferred. Enameling and some minor' stocks a point or more.-The more.-The pressure carried Reading 1 below last night, Tennessee Coal 14 and the United States Steel stocks, Union Pacific, St. Paul, Canadian Pacific. Erie, the Pennsylvania group, St. Louis Southwestern, Southwest-ern, Chicago Great Western, New York Central, and local tractions, Sugar and Colorado Fuel a fraction. There were rallies before 11 o'clock, Missouri Pacific and Texas & Pacific rising a point, but the trading became quieter. The rise In Missouri Pacific extended to 14 and induced in-duced substantial recoveries in the general gen-eral list. Rock Island preferred rose 24 and Southern Pacific, the St. Louis Southwestern South-western stocks, Wabash preferred. Southern South-ern Railway, Mexican Central, Baltimore & Ohio, Norfolk & Western, Amalgamated Amalga-mated Copper, Metropolitan Street Railway, Rail-way, Virginia-Carolina Chemical, and other stocks not usually active rose a point or more over last night.
