Show JAPS ARE PREPARED TO RESIST ATTACKS Partner Hostilities Are Expected in the Beet-Sugar Regions of California. OXNARD, CaL, March 2S.-I Vasques. one of the two men most seriously wounded In Sunday's labor troubles, will die. As soon as the weather clears the Japanese, whose attempt to go out to the beet fields Sunday caused the riot, will again make the attempt. They are prepared pre-pared to resist attacks which are expected to be made. Twelve thousand acres of beets In the surrounding county are now up and need attention. Many farmers are In town anxiously looking for beet-thmners. There are hundreds of Mexicans and Japanese ready to go Into the fields, but owing to the peculiar conditions the farmers are, many of them, afraid to take either union or non-union men. The Sheriff will attempt to control the trouble when the laborers leave Oxnard. but the general opinion Is that the next hostilities will open up In guarded beet fields where the non-union men are now working. |
