Show Republican Thundtr on Trust Quettioa. The Republican campaign book, it -is" , given out from , party headquarters in Washington, will not make its appearance until after the-Democratic convention con-vention at St. Louis has finished its work. The Republican convention did not make a feature fea-ture of the trust question in its platform, and Democrats Dem-ocrats are talking of the possibility of the introduction introduc-tion of some well-worded declaration on that subject sub-ject to catch thepopular approval. . In that event more space will be given to the trust, question in the Republican campaign book than would otherwise be the case. I A few of the delegates at Chicago Chi-cago believed j it would have been well vto introduce in-troduce the trust question prominently in the Republican platform, as they feared the Democrats might force that as an issue, as Bryan forced silver in 1896, when Mr. McKinley and many other Republican Repub-lican leaders thought the tariff would be the issue of the campaign. Should the Democrats place the trust question prominently in their platform the Republican campaign cam-paign book, it is stated, will be provided with a very thorough history of trust legislation and executive action in relation to the trusts. Such'a chapter will be placed in the book in any event, but it may be much enlarged should the Democrats seek to make it prominent in the campaign. The campaign book will also eontain material tn relation to the President's action regarding the Anthracite An-thracite coal strike. |
