Khowles, recently in -the employment of the El Paso & Southwestern railroad, secured $100 from the Lowden bank on the statement that he was 'J. H. Knowles, a mining man for. whom a draft had been received at the bank, but who wai unknown to the banker, and when the fraud'was discovered ofH-cers ofH-cers were aent to" search for the swindler swin-dler - . When the handcuffs were placed on his wrists he first turned pale and then dropped dead. An autopsy was held, and heart 'failure was given as the cause of death. The deceased Is said to have once had a large amount of money In the New York banks, and at one time he was a prominent member of the United Commercial Travelers . at Cleveland, O.. and belonged to a yacht club there. He was also an Elk; and Is believed to have Joined at Cleveland. ' |
