The object of a special meeting called, for tomorrow afternoon at the University Univer-sity Ss the organization of the University Univer-sity Fine Arts club. , The movement, which Is backed by a number of professors, has the hearty support of all the college students. It is the, intention of those interested in the formation of this association to establish, estab-lish, besides sih art gallery, an archaeological archaeo-logical museum and combine the; two as has been done at other State universities. universi-ties. It is realized that unless the students take up the study ef archaeological remains re-mains and gather a collection, it will be bnly a matter of time before students will be compelled to go away to study remains taken from our own State. The branch of the Archaeological Institute of America which was established here last fall by Prof. Kelsey of Michigan university will probably Join in with the hill students and place its findings on exhibition at the University. One of the most prominent members said: "The UnU-ersity is a public Institution Institu-tion and all interested in the work would be given an opportunity to se and study the remains if placed on exhibition along with their specimens. By thus uniting, it would be possible to get one good collection: It would -save the expense of another building: it would be more convenient for the student stu-dent and would serve-our purpose in the end. It would create an interest In archaeological research and would disseminate dis-seminate exact information regarding the early inhabitants of this State." It is the intention to gather together one of the finest art collections in the West, and .an effort will be made to secure se-cure the paintings placed on exhibition at the annual State exhibit. ( One of the school professors, in speaking of tha subject of erecting erect-ing the buildings, said: "I am confident that the Board of Regents will forward the money so that a fine building can be erected in which to keep these collections. The collecting of archaeological remains and the establishment es-tablishment of an art gallery has as much to do with the education of the student as any work I know of. and at present our University work is sadly deficient in these two respects." |
