Show PAWNBROKERS ASK A LOWER LICENSE A number of pawnbrokers, represented represent-ed by Attorney Joseph Llppman. appeared ap-peared before the License committee of the Council last night in behalf of their petition to have their license cut down from 3300 to $100 per annum. Attorney Lippman .explained that the license had been arbitrarily raised in the ' revised ordinances from 3100, and that the brokers could not afford to pay it. It was also pointed out that there are numerous money lenders In the city, who practically practi-cally engage in the same business, but pay no license whatever. It was further fur-ther shown that in the revised ordinances ordi-nances the license of Junk dealers was cut down from 1300 to $30 per year. The committee recommended that the petition peti-tion of the brokers be granted and that the ordinance be amended by the city attorney so as to Include the private money lenders. The city attorney will also amend the Junk dealers' license by a substantial increase. |
