Smedley, aged 30, known on the stage aa Robert Leland, and son of W. E. Smedley, of this city, was found dead In his room yesterday, after having been confined there since Thursday. Thurs-day. His death was caused By gas fumes. About ten years ago Smedley left Salt Lake to attend a military school to prepare pre-pare for West Point. Shortly afterward, he left school and went on the stage, where he obtained some success. About seven years ago he appeared In this city in "Faust." Later he wrote a melodrama, "Her Fatal Sin, which has been played through the East and 8outh for four years with considerable success. suc-cess. The remains will be brought to Salt Lake for burial.
