The opening trading in stocks was very languid and the price movement sluggish.. -Many of the stocks quoted at first were unchanged from last right and the mixed gains and losses of the others were small. A decline de-cline of in bugar was the wldeat change. The purchasing pdwer increased and rubstantial fraotional gains were made by the Paclflcs, Norfolk & Western, Consolidated Con-solidated Gas, United States Steel preferred pre-ferred and Amalgamated Copper. Reading Read-ing was taken freely at an advance of 1H and Chesapeake & Ohio and Smelting scored similar gains. The general market mar-ket reacted a slight fraction before 11 o'clock. ) Northwestern and General Electric Elec-tric declined lVt- Central and South American Telegraph-advanced 4 points. It was difficult to discover more than M variation in the fiuctuatiena of the prominent stocks -during the latter part of the day. Reading's further rise to 7S was without with-out stimulating-effect and the market continued con-tinued inert. Colorado Southern first preferred. Consolidated Gas and- Metropolitan Metro-politan Securities advanced to Ihi. The hardening process was continued, but the trading was listless. Gains reached a point for Southern Pacific, Rock Island, Delaware & Hudson, United States Steel preferred. Amalgamated Copper, Colorado Fuel, Bag, Westlnghouse E4ec-trie E4ec-trie and Brooklyn Transit. 6nuff rose 6 points. Northwestern fell 3 and recov-. recov-. erad all but a point.
