Show - INSANE MAN NAMES HIS OWN GUARDIAN William Lewis, the Insane man who was 'arrested Tuesday evening by Deputy Sheriffs Smith and Edwards after he had run amuck on South Temple street, has appointed a guardian to look after his iaterests. Tile appointment -was made at the county Jail Thursday afternoon. Iewls was formerly a deputy under Sheriff Burt and Is acquainted with Deputy Dep-uty Sheriff Axel Steele, for whom he has Inquired several times since his arrest. Thursday afternoon Deputies Sharp and . Smith were at the Jail. Lewis beckoned Mr. Sharp to .the window of the padded cell, which he Is occupying. "I want to appoint some one to act for me. Who shall I get?" he asked Sharp, pointing to Smith with the remark: "There's a good man, why not get him?" a "I think that he will do, but I want to talk to him first." Andy walked to the door of the cell. "It seems to me that I have eeen you before, but I am not sure." said Lewis. "Do you know that somebody arrested roe and brought me here?" "Yes I heard that you had been ar-restd." ar-restd." said Andy in his kindest voice. "Well, I want to give you an important appointment, a very Important one. I m have succeeded President Roosevelt, with all the rights, powers and titles; having the power and authority 1 hereby appoint you a eub-deputy to act for Axel Steele with'full power to take charge of me and to care for me and to see that I get Justice Jus-tice wherever I may go. You now have this authority for me and I will hold you personally responsible for the full dis-w.harge dis-w.harge of your duty. You may now go." Y The officer retired in silence. |
