Is as follows: "Conforming with the request of your committee, expressed this morning, to put In writing our proposition for the control of the fumes issuing from the stacks of the respective smelters' of the underatrned, to srricably adjust, so far as possible, the dl.Terences between the parties Interested, teg to" submit the following: "Tou will understand that the Various smelting plants of the undersigned are working on dlSerent kinds of ores; that each Is arranged d!3erently for the working of ore, and that In each dliTer-ent dliTer-ent processes are used for the reducing of ores. So that any. scheme that might be recommended as' feasible for adoption adop-tion at one of the plants might not be at all feasible for adootion at another plant. And again It Is possible that some one plan can. be devised to handle the fumes from all the plants. We propose-that a body of experts shall be appointed ap-pointed for the purpose of examining into the conditions at the various smelting smelt-ing plants, and into the known and pro.' posed methods of controlling the fumes. For the purpose of recommending to the smelters, either collectively or severaUy, some feasible plan o be adopted by the smelters for the control of such fumesv and If any plan recommended by the body of experts be commercially feasible, feasi-ble, then we will respectively adopt the same. The report of the committee of farmers farm-ers Is as follows: "Your committee respectfully submit the following report; "That in pursuance of their appointment appoint-ment your committee called upon the managers of the several smelting plants and arranged for a meeting with the managers of the said plants to be held September S. At said meeting the managers man-agers of the smelters asked , for a month's delay, and said that at that time they would give us a definite answer an-swer as to what they would do and indicated indi-cated that they would have some plan for the abatement of the nuisance to submit to us. We met as per arrangement arrange-ment with the managers of the smelters on October 10, 1804, and heard, their proportion, which we requested to be submitted in writing and which is hereto here-to attached and made a part of this report. re-port. It is apparent from the proposition proposi-tion submitted that the smelter companies com-panies do not know how to take care of the poisonous fumes from their stacks, or are not willing to go to the expense of erecting works to abate the nuisance. "In reviewing' the situation and action of the smelting companies for the past two years we do not believe that relief is in sight, and are of the opinion- that further action will have to be taken in order to obtain relief and abate this nuisance." . ' Blanks have been prepared and will be ready at the meeting binding the cltlsens cltl-sens to the prosecution of an injunction suit. |
