' The water.uaers of thle county are eald to have apoken for all the extra water which will be put Into the irrigation canals ca-nals by the proposed Governmental Improvements Im-provements in Utah lake. A meeting waa held In the office of President Pres-ident Angus M. Cannon yesterday, at which It waa stated that applications ha4 already been sent in for water sufficient tolrrlgate 30.000 acres. The conclusion has Keen reached by the officers that enough farmers will bind themaele to take the water and to guarantee the Government the coat of the undertaking. The eatimate of the engineers Is that a. total of 1000 second-feet will be available when the work la completed. This should I Irrigate at least 70,000 acres. The directors of the various canal companies hare 1 agreed that 25 second-feet would be a fair compensation for. their existing rights, but this must be ratified by the stockholders. Figuring on such a basis, . the remaining 750 second-feet would be made to pay for the entire improvement. This -would make the cost $15 an acre, without the cost of canals and pumping plants. The high land would have to pay this $15 In ten annual Instalments, and in addition would have to pay the other cost, making" a total of $25 to $30 an acre. President Cannon said yesterday he estimated es-timated the existing canals would use 2C0 second-feet, in addition to th250set apart for them -without charge, making enough to Irrigate 5,000 acres. This would leave 600 second-feet, or enough to Irrigate another an-other 35,000 acres, remaining to be disposed of. Of this, 20.000 acres had already been spoken for by people living west of the Jordan, and he was sure 10.O0C acres would be subscribed east of the Jordan, leaving unapplied for only 6000 acres. On motion of State Engineer Doremus, It was decided to ask all canal companies to file at once all applications for water, so that It can be determined at an early date Just how much water will be taken. The matter of voting on the basis agreed npon to pay the Government will be laid before the stockholders tomorrow. . |
