Show MINER GAMBLES AWAY LIFETIME SAVINGS Lewis Peters, a miner, 73 years old, whose home Is in Leadville, Colo., came to Salt Lake a few days ago, and on Saturday night bean to gamble. He lost $240 in three gambling-houses and called upon an attorney yesterday for redress. A conference was arranged and w hen the gambler who had gotten the bulk of his money appeared, Peters asked him for a ticket to his Colorado home. The gambler refused to give him the ticket- asked for and is said to have added: "You are a squealer. I wouldn't give you a quarter for a square meal." Peters was left penniless and his savings sav-ings of months were gone. When he heard of the affair County Attorney Westervelt said that If the victims of the gamblers would put their cases in his hand and would give him the evidence evi-dence he needed, he would prosecute the gamblers to the extent of the law. |
