Show POSITION OF DOCTORS Declare Tbcy Aim Only to ' Safeguard Public in Fighting Osteopathy. A formal statement of its attitude in regard to the Senate bill creating a special examination board for osteopaths osteo-paths hasybeen prepared by the Salt Lake County Medical society. Copies of the statement have been forwarded for-warded to all the members of the Legislature. Leg-islature. The physicians urge the claim that they are prompted' by no selfish motives in their efforts to defeat the bill but aim only to safeguard the public welfare. 1 The statement of the society declares that qualified physicians alone should choope the means of preserving life. Any law depriving them of such right would be unjust. The Senate bill would lower the medical med-ical standard in Utah by making it possible pos-sible for unqualified and uneducated men to practice osteopathy. The bill is not clear as to what grade of schools persons must be graduate from to receive re-ceive a license. A course of ten months' study alone is required. The bill is unconstitutional as it. prohibits pro-hibits physicians using any of the so-called so-called osteopathic methods of treatment. treat-ment. The bill is class legislation as it favors a few osteopaths to the detriment detri-ment of the many physicians. The law is unnecessary as the osteopath. osteo-path. If properly educated, can pass the physicians' examination required by law. The Legislature is appealed to not pass laws which will weaken the present pres-ent medical laws. If the medical law is weakened' there will be an influx of Incompetent In-competent practitioners which would menace the health of the State. The appeal ap-peal is signed by the members of the Salt Lake County Medical society. |
