Show POLICC ARRtST 15 SOCIflLiSTS SEATTLE, Wash.. Nov. 3. Fifteen Socialist speakers were arrested on the streets of Seattle last night, lodged in jail and denied bail. Among those taken in custody were candidates for Congress, the Supreme and Superior benches and other offices to be voted on next Tuesday. For several months there has been war between the police and the Socialists, Social-ists, the latter insisting on holding meetings meet-ings against the orders of the former. The Socialists allege police persecution, persecu-tion, and claim that in being denied the .privilege of street speaking the right of freedom of speech is being trampled on by the police. During the arrests last night two men were arrested and booked on charges of assaulting police officers in the performance of their duty, Nearly 3000 people fissemblcd on the streets. The arrests occurred in different parts of the city. |
