Among tbemr.wrw-vraJ Tie-paref"repotfc- " era and Mrs. Robinson and Mrs. Young ot the Deaconess Home,- Probation Ofll-' cer Lucas and Patrolran. Stains. The inquiry Into the procedure taken by Judge .Willis Brown In the, case of Emily Knoxv was the main subject on which' testimony was' received. " Mrs. Young, after her testimony relative to the case, stated that on paying a visit yesterday to the Knox home In Murray, she discovered that the man Try on. with whom the Knox girl was found at the time of his , arrest on the. complaint com-plaint of the girl's mother, is now living liv-ing at the Knox home. The taking of testimony will be again resumed at 10 o clock tomorrow morning.. , The communication of Juvenile Judge Brown, to the commission regarding the case was made public. It contains a long statement concerning the bringing bring-ing of the girl before his court, her refusal re-fusal to submit to a. physical examination, exami-nation, . her subsequent . relenting ; and proving of her chastity. In conclusion Judge Brown says: -"I believe the outcome established -the fact beyond question of doubt that the . proceedings saved the girl from commitment to Ogden and enabled our probation system to prove Its saving power to a misunderstood, , misguided and weak girl. ' "Furthermore I would state! that It would be Impossible for me or anyone else to have used milder language or to have put my questions in a more delicate deli-cate manner In a case where a girl of If was caught In a bedroom with a man of 42, having run away.from home with him and had been' known to have been with him on previous occasions.- - '. "I will say that this case shows the necessity of having some place of detention de-tention for girls other than ' the city and county jail, for, as our custom Is to spend some days In Investigation all cases of boys, by reason of our Morris school where we can detain boys who defy the authority of the court, but in the - case of girls we have no place where they can be put in a normal condition con-dition and where our lady probation officer can befriend them and give them the saving benefit . of our probation system." .... |
