Show Intermountain Affairs; Gleanings from Country Preaa. Examinations for the position of for-'est for-'est rangers for the Pocatello, Ida., forest for-est reserve, will be held at the city hall1 on the 14th, 16th and 16th of next month. Examinations for the position of supervisor super-visor will be held at the same place on May 18. These examinations will be under the supervision of Supervisor Peter Vren8ted. About thirty influential men of Payaon have-taken Initial steps' toward organising organ-ising a Commercial club. A charter membership of eighteen pledged themselves them-selves to support and "boost' for the club, and a committee of seven was appointed ap-pointed to formulate a constitution and by-laws to be presented for adoption at the next meeting,, when an organization will be effected. A Commercial club was organised at Black foot. Ida., with C. V. Fisher, assistant as-sistant -cushler of the Standrod bank, temporary chairman,' and Byrd Trego, editor of the Idaho Republican, temporary tempo-rary secretary. An executive board of nine members wa selected from leading business men of the town, whose names follow: Daniel Raymond. Mayor; George F. Gagon, County Auditor; L. R. Thomas, Thom-as, Register United States Land office; D. R. Jones, cashier Standrod bank; C. A. Dobell, cashier First National bank; W. D. Trego, manager Farmers' Protective Protec-tive association; Q. H. Holbrook, grocer; Dan Gutting, proprietor Blackfoot hotel; F. C. Parkinson, member of the real estate es-tate firm of Barnhart. Stone & Parkinson. Parkin-son. A committee on constitution and by-laws was appointed consisting of C. A. Dobell, F. C. Parkinson and Byrd Trego. . Owing to the lack of funds, the Fillmore, Fill-more, Utah, school year was cut short, and school closed at the end of a seven months' session last Friday. . Hudgtns Bros, of Ely, Nev., have commenced com-menced the operation of an automobile line between Wells and the mining camp of Ely. The auto, a )-horse-power machine, ma-chine, has Just arrived from Chicago. The machine was accompanied by a trailer, to be used in the transportation of freight and express. The auto has a carrying capacity of twenty passengers. .The taxpayers of Eureka, Utah, voted In favor of a special 8-mill tax in order that another school building may be erected In that city. The new building will be an eight-room structure and will coBt ISO0O. At present the schools of Eureka Eu-reka are overcrowded and the trustees will start work at once and have the new building ready by the time school opens after the summer vacation. ... Eureka is booming In the building line this season. Already arrangements have been completed for the erection of three large structures. One of these is the new schoolhouse to cost J8W0; another, the new home of the Eureka Miners' union on upper Main street, costing about IS000. The building which the Elks' lodge will erect will cost In the neighborhood of $20,000. The Baptist church of Eureka Is also figuring upon a new church building build-ing if a suitable piece of ground can be obtained. |
