' The above names were placed on the banner of the Republicans as Council-manic Council-manic candidates at the municipal ward meetings last night. Although It was reported that there had been many desertions from the ranks, all the meetings, meet-ings, with the exception of the First ward, were harmonious. ' Here a little rankling . occurred, which wa. soon patched up. At most of the meetings the candidates were nominated by ac- though the delegater were not Instructed, In-structed, they signified their Intention of working in behalf ot Mr. Hutchinson. Hutchin-son. The members of the city committee chosen at the meetings last night were. First Ward Joseph L. Weller, Will F. Langenbacker. v Second Ward J. J. Greenewald, Joseph Jo-seph J. Anderson. Third 'Ward Harry S. Anderson Walter H. Mitchell. Fourth Ward Joseph Sharp, Glen Miller. Fifth Ward Joseph Cottle, William Edwards. Convention Committees. Committeemen chosen ' for various committees at the city convention are: First Ward W. J. Moore, credentials; creden-tials; W. S. Naylor, platform and resolutions; reso-lutions; H, S. Tanner, permanent organization or-ganization and order of business. Second Ward Alvah Stout, credentials; creden-tials; John De Gray Dixon, platform; E. H. Eardley, organization. Third Ward Joseph E. Mullett. credentials; cre-dentials; William McMlllen, platform; T. L. Irvine, organisation. Fourth Ward Frank Higginbotham, credentials; L. H. Smythe, platform; A. B. Irv'.ne, organization. Hewlett, who Is now the President of the City Council, secured the long term in the First ward. Stephen Ste-phen H. Stanford was- the choice of the convention for the short term. Henry B. Davis was also a candidate, but went down to defeat, although strongly championed by Councilman Thomas Hobday, who showed some antagonism toward Councilman Hewlett. Somewhat of a surprise was shown In the Second ward by the name of Councilman Coun-cilman Gebrge Dean not being mentioned men-tioned In the convention. Councilman L. J. Wood was in the race but withdrew. with-drew. x Four in the Fight. Only four candidates were in the fight, L. J. Wool, Harrison E. Jenkins. John W. Currie, J. A. Eckman. The two latter were chosen. By acclamation the slate of the Third ward was shot through in a hurry. T. A. CaUister, brother of Internal Revenue. Reve-nue. Collector E. H. CaUister. and Bishop Edwin E. Parry of Sixteenth ecclesiastical ward were the nominees Only two candidates appeared in the field In the Fourth ward. A. H. Pea-body Pea-body captured the long term and Joseph Jo-seph Johnson the short term. The Fifth ward meeting presented a more lively appearance, as five candidates candi-dates were warring for the nomination." W. J. Leaker, one of the strongest can-dldates, can-dldates, withdrew on the third ballot, and H. N. Standlsh and A. C.
