RACE ACROSS CONTINENT WITH AUSTRALIAN MAIL. CHICAGO, June 23. In order to catch the steamship Eururla, which is held four hours overtime in New York at the request re-quest of the United States Postofflce department, de-partment, 316 sealed sacks of mall originating origi-nating in Australia are racing across the continent, so as to make up two days lost through a delay in the arrival of the Ven-turia Ven-turia at San Francisco. There Is no obligation on the part of the United States postal authorities or the railroads which carry the mail to make up theso two days, and it is done, through the combined -efforts of th two, onlv as a matter of pride, and because the Australian Aus-tralian mail which crosses the continent i very four weks, has- never been late.
