Show FOR WORK ON CONDUIT Specifications Arc Being Sent Out by City Engineer Engi-neer Ritcr. City Engineer Rlter Is sending out printed copies of the specifications for building the Big- Cottonwood conduit for the use of contractors preparing; estimates es-timates of bids foe the work. Sealed proposals willbe received at the offlce of the Board of Public Works until 3 o'clock In the afternoon of Monday. September 4, 1905. The cost of the work Is estimated to be nearly 1350,000. The work, according to the specifications, specifi-cations, Is to begin within five days after af-ter the awarding; and approval of the contract by the City Council. The work is to be completed by July 15, 190$. A clause exacting $150 a day forfeit for each day over the time limit will be Inserted In the contract. This clause Is helped by the offer of $150 a day as a premium for every day m which the contract Is completed prior to the time limit. , The steel reinforcements for the concrete con-crete work will be purchased by the city. ,Thls Is somewhat of a departure from the usual course followed In the awarding of contracts by the city. But this plan was agreed upon after . considerable con-siderable deliberation by the city. It Is believed that it will give the contractor a more equal opportunity for bidding and will enable the city to save several sev-eral thousand dollars by receiving; bids for the material. Assistant City Engineer George M. Bacon, who Is directly In charge of the work, is negotiating the purchase of the rights of way for the big conduit. These rights are expected to be bought for $5000. |
