Show WISE SELECTION OF OFFICERS. With the wise selection of officers to head the newly-organized Merchants and Manufacturers' association, the success of that body is assured. Xo better men could have been named to guide.the destinies desti-nies of what is certain to be one of the greatest factors in the development devel-opment of a greater Salt Lake. They are workers, men who have accomplished ac-complished things, and they have an abiding faith in the city in which they have cast their lot. You will hear no knocking from the ranks of the Merchants and Manufacturers' association; it will be one consistent boost from the start the kind of, boosting that counts. The leaders of the movement can be depended upon to pufthe association asso-ciation on a Arm working basis and establish its positiont among the influential organizations of the country. It would be hard to over-estimate the importance of the Merchants Mer-chants and Manufacturers' association to the future growth of Salt Lake. It has an almost virgin field before it, the possibilities of which cannot yet be defined. It is notoo much to predict that Salt lake will become the Tittsburg of the West. The things which r would make an advancing manufacturing center are here in abundance. abun-dance. The coal and iron fields are almost limitless. A "great territory of which Salt Lake is the center will furnish a substantial home market mar-ket for the factories' products, and transportation facilities cannot be excelled. Within easy distance from the coast. Salt Lake may yet d'scover a rich field in the Orient, toward which the eyes of the commercial com-mercial world are now turned. That little body of men who met the other night and completed the organization of the Merchants and Manufacturers' association have without doubt instituted a movement the effect of which will be felt long after they are gone. Eastern manufacturers are looking for new fields; they must come west. Salt Lake will be first in the field with definite inducements to these people. The officers chosen can be depended upon to present this city's advantages in the best possible manner. But the Merchants and Manufacturers' association cannot make a greater Salt Lake by itself, though its efforts will go a long way. The new organization must have the support of the people. And let this support be not moral alone. Make it substantial and practical. We are all working for the interest of the city, and the association will be given a hearty welcome. |
