Show MANY CHANGES MADE IN THE GAME LAWS OF UTAH Game Warden Sharp-Calls Attention of Hunters and Fishermen to New Statutes. Numerous changes, have been made in the new fish and game laws which go Into effect on May 9. The principal change that will' be made this year is In regard to. the shooting of, big game. The dally, bag of many birds has been reduced.' A fishing and hunting license li-cense will also have to be secured by non-residents. - ' ; State Fish and Game Commissioner John Sharp has issued copies of the new fish and game laws. The book is larger than previous years, and contains. con-tains. In addition to that 'of previous years, a copy of the statute governing fish hatcheries. A change in the old law which will be of special interest to the small boys in and about - Salt Lake City is that they may now fish at any time in the Jordan i-lver for carp, suckers, chubs, bullheads,: catfish. mullet, and mountain moun-tain herring, provided they are caught with 4 hook and line. The Ashing in this stream has been prohibited for several years. The use of seines for the catching of carp, chubs, mullets, bullhead and catfish cat-fish Is allowed in the following named waters only: Bear and Sevier lakes, Colorado,' Green, Grand and in Sevier rivers below the bridge on the State road leading from Juab to Scipio, from May 1 to October 1, and In San Juan river: In the Weber river below Its Junction with the Ogden river. In the Bear river below : the bridge at Bear River City, from September 1 to March 31 following: and in Bear lake only from May la to July 15, provided further fur-ther that suckers may be taken by grabbing hooks in Provo river, and in Spanish Fork river only, and that only between the Oregon Short Line railway rail-way crossing and Utah lake, and in Weber river in Morgan and Weber counties. The dragging of seines shall be In the presence of the county warden war-den or his deputy. , It shall be lawful to use spears with or -without torch or lamplight for taking ta-king and killing carp only. Gill nets can be used In Bear lake between June 15 and September. 15. ... For the next four years sportsmen will have to refrain from killing any deer, elk, antelope, mountain sheep, otter ot-ter or beaver, or any game animals or birds that may be imported for the purpose pur-pose of stocking the State. Any person per-son giving information that will lead to conviction under this section will receive one-half of the fine. No spring shooting of wild ducks, geese, snipe.' shoreblrd. brant or swan will be allowed under the new law, as the closed season will extend from January 1 to October 1 of each year. At no time shall the daily bag be of more than twenty-"ve birds. The old law allowed forty birds. The shooting of quail can only be en-Joyed en-Joyed in Washington and Kane counties coun-ties between August 1 and February 1 following, and in Salt Lake. Davis and Weber counties between September 30 and October 11. It is unlawful to sen or shlD any of the birds out of the counties. The dally bag on quails has been reduced to twelve birds In Salt Lake, Davis and Weber counties. A non-resident will hereafter be compelled to procure a license from the State Commissioner to either hunt or fish In the State. This license, which formerly only applied to gunning, has been Increased from $10 to 25 annually. |
