Show UNIDENTIFIED BURGLAR IS SHOT DEAD AT UNION The body of an unidentified Greek of ! massive proportions, lies on a slab at Undertaker S. D. Evans', where It )s being held for identification. The body Is that of a desperate burglar, who was shot to death at. 1 .o'clock this morning at Union, three miles south-east south-east of Murray, while attempting to escape from R. F. Forbush, who had been detailed to guard him and prevent his escape, while a posse of heavily-armed heavily-armed ' cltlsens sought for the companion com-panion of the man who was captured. A few minutes before 1 o'clock persons per-sons living near the Co-op store at Union saw two men break into - the store. The residents in the neighborhood neighbor-hood were notified and . a posse was formed by the men who could be reached In the few moments that were taken for the organisation of the posse, and the store was surrounded. . . One of the members of the posse entered en-tered the store, followed by others. The guard on the outside was on the alert to prevent the escape of the burglars should they manage to get away from those men in the store. "One of the burglars was captured at the muzzle of a shotgun which was leveled at his heart.. He gave up, and was taken to a place apart from the store and placed under the guard of Forbush. The other .burglar took a' gambler's chance and ran like a frightened deer. A shot was fired but he escaped in the darkness. ....... The posse then left Forbush, who is only 20 years old but possessed of indomitable in-domitable pluck. In charge of the prisoner pris-oner they had captured, and pursued his fellow In crime., . The posse had no more than disappeared disap-peared in the darkness than the man under arrest made an attempt to escape. es-cape. Forbush cried tlee times for him to halt, but the command was Ignored - Then Forbush fired. The burglar felt to the ground. Instantly killed, the base of his skull torn away by a handful of shot that went true to the mark. Forbush was so badly shaken by the killing that he nearly collapsed. A Coroner's Cor-oner's Jury took testimony In the case this morning and exonerated Forbush from blame in the matter, commending him for his bravery. . The body is exceptionally large for that of a Greek. The man was Ave fyt ten and a half Inches in height, and his muscles were developed to a remarkable state. The man wore a straggling black mustache and had about a two days' growth of beard,- . |
