Show W MR FOX AND THE ROOSTER Mr Fox had hall a grudge against the I big red and green rooster that lived at the farm nearest Mr Foxs Fox's home Every time I get near enough to pick out a g or fat hen on the tho roost that rooster begins to crow and either I lose my breakfast or my head grumbled Mr Fox If I could only catch him outside the barn I would soon put a stop to his crowing but he is too wise for for that Many a time I have wandered about the fence behind the barn where a fat hen and her chicks sometimes sometimes some- some times imes walk and as sure as I do there thereon on the fence is that rooster looking around as if he scented danger and the way he lie can crow and warn those hens hens is astonishing There is no use I must get rid of him and this ver very night I will make it my work to do so said Mr 11 Fox trotting off toward the farm with avery a avery avery very determined air When Mr Fox reached the farm the barnyard animals had l been leen een in bed some hours and all was still so Mr l Fox carefully crept past Mr 11 Dogs Dog's house and made for the poultry house Mr Fox kept in close to the barn barnin in the shadow stopping every once f fa ina in ina n a while to listen and just as he had made ready to run across to the house hous e where Mr Rooster slept Mr 11 Fox saw something that made him stand ver very still Right beside the barn in the shadow stood Mr Rooster just as if he were asleep Mr Fox smiled but he hardly breathed for fear Mr Rooster would crow before he be could get near enough to grab him Very softly he crept toward Mr Rooster wondering all the time how bow howit it if hA Tin roc instead of f fb b beside his is- is family i y- y yi i in the i p poultry u if house I I expect he lie was looking for me thought Mr Fox with a wide smile He will never look again though and after this the way will be e clear for me to have good food for a while Mr Fox sprang at him and grabbed him in his mouth and ran shaking him as he went But somehow Mr Rooster seemed very hard tougher than any very old duck or hen Mr 11 Fox had ever been unlucky unlucky- enough to catch and when he was out in the road he put Mr Rooster on the ground and put his foot on him Mr Rooster lay very still on the ground Mr 11 Fox had been surprised he had not cried out when I took hold of him t I Mr Fox t took ok a closer look turned Mr Rooster over with j then he snuffed and then str I it may seen Mr Fox took to 11 h 11 hand and ran leaving Mr Roost Rooster Rooster ground 1 Mr Fox had been fooled j carried off a wooden rooster t farmer had brought home fro Prot to put on top of his barn j i He had been so delighted f f f. f he had caught Mr Rooster J thought that he had not thing but that the rooster w wand wi wiand wiand and green 3 Mr Fox felt fel very foolish a hoped no one had seen him d dl rooster but some one had d i Jack Rabbit 4 1 Jack Rabbit ran over to they the theyon on the ground and sniffed at I il ii ilI he began to laugh and off h he hethe I the woods to tell his friends friends- s s sI I ne next nett t day poor Mr Fox was as as everyone he met how bow he IiI lik 1 taste of a wooden rooster J d Cor Copyright ht 1317 1917 by the McClure I |
