Winder president for the past year declined to be a candidate and there were placed in the field Mr 1 Ennis and Mr 1 Pickton after which which I nominations closed Mr 1 Ennis was wasi i elected president and soon after was I called to the chair Walter Valter S S. S Mackey was elected vice president Following this some routine business occurred after which a talk was made by the state farm bureau president Mr Mackay l and the county agent Mr 11 Webb Some other routine business business business busi busi- ness followed such as a report of the secretary and following this J J. L. L Rawlings who I arose to a point of order which was wasI sustained by the chair Mr Peterson I then stated briefly that C C. G G. Patterson Patter Patter- I son had been sent to Washington by byI bythe bythe the Intermountain as association association as- as I which was a regularly incorporated in incorporated in- in organization and that C C. G G. I Patterson was duly authorized as its i rEpresentative This opened up the question of the I Hotel Utah meeting In August at which fourteen members of the county farm bureau a agreed reEd that the price of offEred offered offered of- of b by the Utah-Idaho Utah Sugar com- com company company pany for beets was This action was repudiated by toy the same organization the farm bureau at a meeting held in October at which meeting two committees committeE's were appointed appointed appointed ap ap- ap- ap pointed with J J. L L. L Rawlings referred to above e who was delegated to wait walt upon Governor Bamberger and Mr Armstrong to try to adjust differences between the ana and the tIle sugar company It appeared from remarks by Mr Rawlings who was chairman of the committee that the committee had not acted as Mr 1 Rawlings complained complained complained com com- I that he had been sick SACK Another committee had been appointed appointed ap ap- pointed to memorialize the sugar company company company com com- pany asking for a raise This committee committee committee com com- was headed by Mr Peterson of Draper and Mr Peterson stated that bureau and aorl andas andas as a member of the farm as the head of one of its organized committees he had pre presented the pe petition petition petition pe- pe but had received no reply These reports of committees preceded the question raised by Mr Rawlings Mr Air Rawlings then arose and moved t that at atit it be the sense of the meeting that the local papers be notified that C C. G G. Patterson did not represent the beet beet- growers and that a telegram to the Va Washington to I same Fame effect be sent to the food administrator Mr Hoover Mr l Rawlings spoke to the motion be before before be- be fore foro sitting down and in doing so referred to certain organizations as not being patriotic and classing them with I I. I W V W Ws W's s and similar organizations The newly elected vice president president president dent Walter S S. Mackey Macley followed and made an attack upon Mr 11 Patterson in which he stated that he was not a i proper pers n to represent the beet- beet growers and indorsed Mr R Rawlings Rawlings' ideas Following this different people spoke and during this time A A. F. F arose se several era times Umes and asked permission permission permission sion of the chair to speak It was of course understood od presumably that I Mr Air would speak in behalf behalf of Mr l Patterson of the Intermountain association After being be being being be- be ing refused recognition b by the chair I several times he appealed to the body of the house to speak and was re reproved reproved re- re Drove proved by the chairman but Imme Imme- A afterwards was given permission sion to talk Mr very logically forcibly and aorl eloquently defended defended defended de de- de- de fended the organization atlon of which he was a member and in the course of f his remarks resented his being classed with I LW V Ws W's and other similarly alleged unpatriotic people His remarks remarks re remarks re- re marks met with the entire approval of the body of of the meeting and he he was repeatedly and vociferously cheered After ter he ho concluded a man arose and m moved ved to lay on the table the motion i to discredit Mr Patterson This was as seconded and immediately carried by what was apparently unanimous ac acclamation ac- ac The chairman who had the appearance of being a parliamentarian parliamentarian tried to put the original motion motion motion mo mo- tion rather than the motion to lay on the table but this was howled down After Afler this the chairman called for foi a arising arising arising rising vote and the body of the house arose and about third one-third at or the members members mem mem- bers marched out The president mem-I mem announced announced announced an an- that the meeting was adjourned ad adjourned ad- ad i which in hi this case was a 1 gratuitous and unnecessary exhibition i of parliamentary power I After Arter Mr concluded Dir Mi Mr Rawlings personally apologized to him and later apologized to the body for forr r remarks which he claims were not intended Mr Rawlings rose to a point of order when Mr lIr was I talking and was howled down The Intermountain as association association association as- as has petitioned Mr Armstrong I for redress and is willing to show both boot costs of prod production and is willing to submit for dispute cost of production i of sugar The Intermountain Beet- Beet growers' growers association alleges that the profits of the company are enormous while farmers generally raise beets at ata ata ata I a loss when total costs are considered A F.
