A Guest TIlE THE PROPRIETOR How curiously man is made Ive I've used that thought before 4 Of him his clerks are all afraid Because he owns the store From Monday until Saturday Me He struts about the place And never seems to put away I The frown upon his face So many things depend upon His judgment and his wit His lot is not tn n easy one I willingly admit And so he keeps a graven air air And cold and steely eyes That people round him everywhere May think him him- very wise He seldom laughs and never sings At least where folks can see He never never does the silly things Wl Which ch hinder you and me If someone brings a jest absurd Before the tale is oer o'er For or fear his laughter may be heard He always shuts the door He wears aU all week a 3 solemn pose Severe correct and grim The clerks s s everybody knows Are all afraid of him And yet so strangely man i is made And fear so strangely works I think the big man is afraid afraid- 1 1 He cannot t hL cle clerks i |
