| Show Unwritten History Mesa City Dec 21 1887 To the Editor Where In the early history of the Church Is written an account ot the first attempt by the Latterday Saints to live In a united or social order And I would like to ask If there Is I anyone any-one now living who was at Klrtland before It was appointed a place of general gathering and who remembers the Old Family Farm situated some to and a halt mile above the then little village called Kirtland Fiat upon the farm of Isaac Morley near the Shagrlnn river Ills father then living liv-ing was one of the earliest settlers And among the Wealthiest oC that vicinity rather Isaac Morley received re-ceived the Gospel In 1830 or about the same time as did hldney Itlgdon who wa then a noted leader In the real Campbelllto or Christian reformation and at that time had u large following follow-ing In Mentor Klrtland and urroun < lIng l-ing country On his receiving the Gos Iel many ot his former converts still followed him In obedience to the truth Soon after this the lines of fellowship became so bharply drawn that Influenced Influ-enced by the spirit ot gathering and the growing hatred of their former as loelate with the consent and cooper lion of Father Morley then a Young man who with all ho pos ssscd was devoted to the great cause they gathered around him as a flock and built houses closely sectored sector-ed together upon his farm anti In ft goodly decree lived uu did 1 the disciples at Jerusalem In having all things equal If not all things common soon after this Klrtland was appointed a place ot gathering for the Church and then brethren train 11Iram and other places came and brought out mont nf the little village and most of the lands 1 adjacent and a plat for the city at Kirtland was soon surveyed But ns I did not arrive at Klrtland until the spring of 1833 I was dependent upon Obatlon And comon rumor for what transpired before my coming I well remember however beIng employed by those living upon the Family rarm to assist In removIng the houses and reconstructing them upon the Klrt land city lots Few veterans of that period nre still living And Patriarch Joseph Kings bury Is the only one in I acquaintance ac-quaintance that I can now call n mind As nlvvajs UNCLE HEN |
