Santistevan, Area Director Recreational play is going well along in all the Salt Lake County recreational play centers in Bingham, Copperton, Highland Boy and Lark Miss Virginia Harris who will be in charge of activities at Bingham Central and Copperton will begin her work Monday as will Darlene I Johnson and Lorraine Tobiason , who are at present attending the i University of Utah Harold W. Nielsen, Janice Hansen and Colleen Col-leen Creedon have had charge j of registering participants and carry out a tentative program until Miss Harris can take charge i A full program dancing, story t telling, handicraft and regular I play activities and active games l will be conducted for the next j j ten weeks under the supervision j ot the Salt Lake County Recreational Recrea-tional Board. Rain has hampered our baseball base-ball playground at Copperton during the past two weeks. On the days that it has been possible to hold it we have had well over 125 boys daily. Our largest crowd SO far has been 168 boys and just as soon as it will lie possible to keep our play going regularly our attendance will increase and our play will become more extensive. ex-tensive. I would like at this time to have all girls in our community who are interested in playing Softball to think over the possi-! bility of organizing a four or six i girls softball league to play on i the Bingham playground in low- j er Bingham daily. I will call a meeting a little later of all girls, j perhaps we can find sponsors for each team. J. C. Penney is sponsoring a team on the playground daily. Chris KatLs and Ferdinand Flor-es Flor-es are in charge and they are keeping their club hustling and lighting. The Bingham police force are also sponsoring a team of boys from the Carr Fork and Upper 1 Bingham area. Louis Saldivar and Joseph Nichols are two boys who are in charge of this squad. The Copperton boys have entered en-tered three teams in the playground play-ground league- The Copperton Eagles, Copperton Lions and Copperton Cubs. All have boys who are good baseball players and who are striving to keep their clubs out in front. Frogtown has entered two teams, the Frogtown Bees and the Frogtown Juniors. Both groups are good teams. The Bingham Cardinals are a group of young boys who an hitting hit-ting the ball hard and playing great baseball in the Pewee league. lea-gue. The Bingham Post No. 30 American Am-erican Legion team dropped its first practice game 12-11 to Brig-ham Brig-ham City American Legion Post in a night game. On Tuesday, June 10 Bingham won its first league game 6-5 from Jordan post American Legion of Mid-vale. Mid-vale. This Friday (today) the Legion Le-gion team will play at Holladay against the Legion post team. The All-Star game that was to be played at Ogden on Wednesday, Wednes-day, June 11 was postponed a-gain a-gain on account of wet grounds and will be played on Monday niflht, June 23 at 8:15 p.m. o |
