Show PLAYGROUND NEWS by B. J. SantisWvan, Area Director Brent Peterson, playing with the Copperton Lions was the biting bit-ing star of the day Wednesday. Playing against the Bingham Fire Fighters he hit safely five times. Two of his hits went for home runs. BDAA and Bingham firemen have both sponsored teams in the Junior league. Both sponsors have furnished caps and shirts for their teams. Elva Ruth Shoppe and Canyon Motor were both victims of upsets up-sets last week. Elva Ruth were upset by Frogtown and Canyon Motor by Copperfield Eagles. Both of the two losing clubs are the leaders in the playground league and both underdogs really real-ly felt great in defeating them. The Bingham Legion team dropped their Fourth of July game with Magna at Magna 10-8. 10-8. It was a well played game and was played before a large crowd. I On Tuesday of this week the Legion team defeated the Drap- I er Legion team, who are leading the league by a score of 6-3. Johnny Garahana, diminutive third baseman for the legion team is playing his usual steady game. Johnny in spite of his size is a great player and is a good fielder and hitter. Canyon Motor club of the Junior Jun-ior league turned to softball this week. They journeyed to Magna Tuesday and defeated them 3-2. We intend to enter all four of our Junior league teams in the baseball tournament at Murray on the 22nd of July. We will also enter all our legion boys who are 16 years of age and under. Edward Gaythwaite of Elva Ruth Shoppe is fast becoming one of the classiest outfielders in the Junior league. Edward covers cov-ers a lot of ground, is death on fly balls and is a good hitter and possesses a strong arm. All that is necessary to make a good ball player. Dick Houghton and Georgie Apostol are two fine first basemen. base-men. Dick plays with Elva Ruth Shoppe and Georgie with BDAA. Pablo Valdez, Pete Leyba, Chris Katis, Leon Miller and Ronnie Burke are all hustling for the Copperfield Eagles. Clifford Nielsen has turned catcher for the Bingham Fire Fighters. He does a fine job of it too. Lyman Farley is pitching daily for the Copperton Lions. He has a great arm for a little fellow and is really tough out there on that hill- Garth West and Raymond Stoker Sto-ker were battery mates when the BDAA defeated Copperfield Eagles 15-12. Garth pitched a great game. Ronnie Kastelic and Merlin Coleman were battery mates for Elva Ruth in their victory and first defeat of Canyon Motor company 13-12. It was a great game and a great finish for a game bunch of players Albert Gallegos, Dick Roblez, Pete Furgis and Henry Galvan are hitting the ball hard for BDAA. . - Ronnie Boren and Tommy Lo-vat Lo-vat are two small ball players with a lot of hustle and pepper. They play for the Bingham tire Fighters. , ... We are planning to hold a Huck Finn day for all the children child-ren of Bingham and Lark area as well as Copperfield and Highland High-land Boy areas to be held perhaps per-haps Tuesday, July 22 at Murray park. We plan to make this a whole day of activity. The base, ball tournament will also be held in Murray on this date. We will enter all our Junior league earns in the tournament and spend the day fishing and swimming. We will have to arrange to get parents to drive their cars and get all the Bingham children to the Murray park. But the recreational recrea-tional staff nere in Bingham believes be-lieves it can be done. 2 |
