Show B.D.A.A. FLASHES by Jim Abplanalp At the regular BDAA meeting held Monday at BCO hall, the board of governors decided to temporarily discontinue attempts to put a baseball team in the amateur league. Due partly to a late start and largely to the fact that no adequate diamond facilities fa-cilities are available, the board voted to shelve the matter till a later date. It is regrettable that a sports town as prominent as Bingham cannot do something to provide it's youth a decent field on which they can play. Teams already in the Amateur circuit were more than pleased to have a Bingham entry, on the provision, after looking over the local ball diamond, dia-mond, that we play all our games at Salt Lake. None of the other teams approved ap-proved of the facilities here, and we should take the hint; perhaps per-haps something can be done a-bout a-bout this matter before another season rolls around. Nearly all persons and firms that were contacted con-tacted regarding this baseball deal were very much interested. Let's keep in mind the value of this enterprise. We can get a good ball park and make it worthwhile, not only to our youth, but to the entire community. commu-nity. SOFTBALL SLANTS Despite a loss apiece, and some near upsets the strong Lark and A & M nines continued to lead ! the pack in the BDAA softball race. Lark, after- losing its only game to the A St M crew, had to fashion a last inning rally to down the surprising Eagles 9-6. A ft M suffered their first defeat, after a heated battle to the Lions 7-6. This game was a thriller all the way, and was in doubt clear through. The lowly Eagles, after sharpening sharp-ening up their claws, pounced on the U. S. Mine entry and flew off with their first win of the season 15-5. No. 2 Firemen split last week's play, trouncing Copperton 12-5 and losing to A & M 10-2. In closing, below is a reprint of a letter received by the Bingham Bing-ham District Athletic association from a local sports fan: Bingham baseball and softball fans are anxious to know why when four teams are scheduled to play softball, participants and fans journey to Copperton park cmjy to find a legion baseball game being played. On the other hand baseball fans would also like to know when the legion baseball games are to be played in order that they may see some baseball in Bingham. This fan believes that with a little better cooperation on the part of those in charge of the two games would eliminate a condition that arose Tuesday, July 1st, when four softball teams and two baseball teams were all present at the Copper-ton Copper-ton park at the same time. There were a few who didn't show as the news leaked out some way and Paul Revere drove down the canyon shouting "No softball games tonight American i Legion is playing". |
