E Caldwell who Is a member of the Utah water storage commission will also submit the result of their findings CONFERENCE CALLED On March 25 there will be a conference conference conference con con- ference held In Salt Lake which will be attended by engineers of the reclamation service at which the th f H Gres halt alt Ia ake a Ce e basin as a whole will be considered In his letter to the the- governor Director Director DIrector Di DI- rector Davis says the result of the Investigation thus far indicates that that the ultimate Irrigable acreage trIbutary tributary tributary trib trIb- to the Ogden and Weber rivers rivers rivers riv riv- ers Is acres and that of this amount acres In Morgan Davis and Weber counties an additional supply of acre- acre feet of water according to water allotment surveys made by the state engineer that the proposed Magpie l Echo Chalk creek and Lost creek i reservoirs provide the best additional additional additional addi addi- storage on the two a proposed capacity of feet acre with a total cost of or per acre foot The Lost creek reservoir on Lost creek tributary to the Weber with witha a proposed capacity of acre acre- feet teet is estimated Green DIrector Director Director Di DI- rector Davis says that the best means for tor supplying Irrigation water water water wa wa- ter to the areas on the Birch creek bench Sand Ridge and under the Davis and Weber counties canal extension the latter of which would presumably bring this water close to the northern boundary of the Bonneville Irrigation district project Just north of Salt Lake City Is by means of a new highline highline high high- line canal heading In the Weber river near Peterson The pr preliminary preliminary nary estimate of the cost of ot this canal Is 3 89 3 0 I REPORT READY MAY 1 Concerning tho the work done on the Utah lake division of the cooperative cooperative cooperative tive project he says that It Is now In b process of preparation and wille will willbe be e completed about May 1 next This report will cover a proposed ultimate Irrigation development of Utah lake and Jordan river water for use on lands In Utah Salt Lake and Tooele counties It will also cover a possible means to eliminate flood conditions In Utah lake and Jordan river Concerning the Lower White river river river riv riv- er Investigation Mr Davis says ays the necessary field work Is completed and field data ls Js s now being worked up This report also will be completed completed completed com com- about May 1 Up to March 1 the expenditures for tor the work on the Investigation have totaled and with an estimated being spent this month the grand granc total estimated cost Is leaving leaving leav leav- ing In the available fund May 1 about BEAR RIVER CONCERNED In presenting the consideration which lead him to suggest the ap appropriation appropriation ap- ap of ot an additional of ot which would be supplied by bythe bythe the state Director Davis says The area covered by the present work includes two of the principal tributaries to the Great Salt lake the Jordan and Weber rivers The third Bear river Is considered to have a a very Important bearing on or on any development In the Great Salt Sal Lake basin especially in fn combination combination combination tion with Bear River bay The water water water wa wa- ter In this latter bay has since the construction of ot the LucIn off cut been freshened 5 1904 greatly Should It be possible to make use of or the water in the bay by pumping it is very probable that lower lying lands In Weber and Davis counties could be so supplied thereby de decreasing decreasing decreasing de- de creasing the higher priced storage requirements on the Weber river river and its tributaries This may also I allow more water to be diverted from the Weber to the Provo river at Kamas and stored on the latter river for possible use on higher lyIng ly lying lying ly- ly ing lands In Salt Lake and Utah counties The Weber river could be diverted to the Bear River bay I also thereby Increasing materially the fre freshening hening effect already accomplished accomplished n- n pUshed by the Bear river dver MORE FUNDS NEEDED It appears to me that this possible possible possible ble use of Bear Blar river and bay water Is one of ot the Important factors In Inthe Inthe inthe the Irrigation development In Utah and should be Investigated now In order to round out the Salt Lake basin Investigation properly The three rivers Bear Weber and Jordan Jordan Jordan Jor Jor- dan are so related that In order to determine the best means for future economical devel development In the Ya vat ley alt all possible combinations for tor forthe forthe the use of the tho three should be ba stud stud- The estimated cost of this Be Bear r river arid and bay Investigation Is or more than will re remain re- re main In the joint fund on May 1 I 1923 I In connection with the low lower r J White river Investigation the possibility possibility possibility of use of Yampa river water on the Dead Mans Man's bench areas has developed The allotted by bythe bythe bythe the September 1 1 1922 contract will willaU all aU be expended by May 1 1 1923 In order to Investigate this possibility it H Is estimated additional funds will be required In consider the additional Inv Investigation very necessary on account of ot the greater volume of ot water available In the Yampa Tampa than In the White river Also I on account of or the Yellow Jacket Jack Jack- et project near Meeker Colo being developed thereby very materially reducing the amount of water that can be diverted for tor use on the lower White river project as at present Investigated The additional Investigation work will cost or I more than will be In the cooperative cooperative cooperative tive fund on May bray 1 I 1923 Please advise me if the state of Utah will continue to cooperate on a fifty fifty- fifty basis so that the Investigation may be pushed to a a. completion this year This Thin cooperation will require from the state of or Utah and andas andas andas as much from the secondary funds of the United States reclamation se service In a letter to the governor State Engineer R. R E. E Caldwell referring Ito I to the letter of Director of the Reclamation ReI Re- Re I I Service A A. P. P Davis sa says s I I the projects named In the letter have been recurring for many years I The Bear River bay project and the Deadmans Deadman's s Bench project should have some attention It If money can I be made mado available It has Just come to my attention now that water from the Tampa Yampa river Is possible possible pos pOi I sible for tor the Deadmans Deadman's Bench pro- pro I have understood heretofore that It was not possible The Bear River bay project I Is essentially a a. pumping project an and its feasibility would depend largely upon the amount of land that may feasibly be reached b by pumping A considerable number of people are aro Interested In this and if It the bay can be bo used for storage for Weber river water It will be a distinct advantage Logan river users are very anxious anxious ious lous for cooperative Investigation on the Logan river I 1 I would dislike very much to have tire the Investigations Investigations I stopped with the feeling that I Provo bay an and Yampa Tampa river had not been considered |
