Show LIONS CLUB FETED BY DR. PAUL RICHARDS Members of Bingham Canyon Lions club were guests of Dr. Paul S. Richards at a fried chicken chick-en dinner Tuesday evening at the picnic area on the mountainside mountain-side back of the Bingham hospital. hos-pital. Dr. Richards cooked and served the dinner to the 21 guests present. He was assisted by Dino Moretti and Paul Richards Jr. Bingham Lions plan to be hosts to Lark Lions at a picnic in the near future. A Softball game will be played prior to the picnic. Clair R. Mathis was named chairman chair-man in charge of this affair. He will be assisted by F. A. Miller and J. Lynn Booth. Vigilantes from the Galena Days committee appeared at the meeting and fined all Lions who did not have a beard $1.00. T. Sgt. Ned Chestnut, who returned re-turned from England last Thursday, Thurs-day, after flying 33 missions over Germany as a radio gunner was present at Tuesday's meeting and told Lions of his many experiences. exper-iences. Ned stated that his bomber bomb-er was hit over Brussels, Belgium. The crew finally landed land-ed the bomber. They found that there were 146 flak holes in the plane. Ned received the presidential presi-dential citation for rescuing a ball turret gunner from his turret tur-ret after it had been shot out of order and the gunner's oxygen supply was cut off. He stated that the highlight of his army service came when he was selected se-lected as a member of an Air Transport Command crew to fly several senators and a general over Europe following V-E day to pay off prisoners of war. On this trip he visited in Paris, i Vienna, Rome, Budapest, Warsaw, War-saw, Moscow, Berlin, Brussels, Copenhagen, Oslo and Stockholm. Stock-holm. He said that another eventful ev-entful trip was the time he flew with Gen. Jimmy Doolittle and his crew to Paris. Ned was connected with the Eighth air force while in England Eng-land before transferring to the A.T.C. His last job. before sailing sail-ing home, was helping fly interned in-terned bombers back to England from Sweden. Another highlight of Sgt. Chestnut's bomber crew career was the dropping of a bomb labeled Bingham Canyon on Berlin on February 3, 1945- Gunner Chestnut is wearing wear-ing four oak leaf clusters, distinguished dis-tinguished flying cross, good conduct con-duct ribbon, presidential citation and European theatre of operations opera-tions campaign ribbon with three engagement stars. |
