Show RUSH AID TO UNGA VILLAGE In answer to an appeal for I help, wired from the governor's office in Juneau, the Anchorage office of' the Territorial Board of Health and the local Red Cross chapter yesterday dispatched i nurses, antitoxin serum and medical supplies aboard two Elmendorf Fields airplanes to the village of LJnga, on Unga Island, one of the Shumagm I group off the southern coast of ! the Alaskan Peninsula to battle an outbreak of diphtheria there. Mrs. Hal Reherd, the former Doris Barkle of Copperton, and Miss Vivian Stahl, nursing volunteers vol-unteers obtained through the local lo-cal Red Cross, were flown to the tiny island by army and navy air transport. They left Fort Richardson for Cold Bay last evening, ev-ening, and there they boarded a' navy PBY for the flight to Unga. (From the Anchorage Daily Times Tim-es May 1.) |
