A Petersen 19 student flier who crashed Saturday in foot mountains near Great Basin experiment station east of Ephraim was reported in serious serious se se- se- se rious condition in Mt Pleasant hospital at 1 p. p m. m Tuesday Dr G. G B. B Madsen physician who met the rescue party which brought the youth from wreckage of his plane Tuesday morning said he suffered from severe exposure frozen extremities a fractured jaw and lacerations of the face The doctor said his hands were badly frozen and both feet were frozen solid to six Inches above the ankle At 1 p. p m. m the doctor said Petersen was just rousing sufficiently Buffi to inquire What happened He said he was in no condition to be questioned as to cause of the Saturday crash which occurred while the young flier who had been living with a sister in Salt SaIt Lake City was en route to visit his parents Mr and Mrs William Petersen of Spring City Unable to Talk Coherently When Found DeLon DeLan Covert 17 Spring City a member of the horseback rescue party which found Petersen at his wrecked plane at 7 a. a m. m after Samuel K Eck flier circled the spot said the youth wa wasT delirious and unable to talk coherently when they found him Covert is a former Sanpete high school classmate of the flier The injured youth was brought to Mt Pleasant by auto after being brought down the mountain road from the Great I Basin experiment station to Ephraim He was placed in hi the hospital hos pital pita just before noon First word that the youth was being brought to the Great Basin experiment station in mountains 10 miles mile east of here was waa flashed by the boys boy's father William Petersen of Spring City was a member of the party of horsemen who set out Monday Mon Mon- day dar dap night to rescue him 7 I Father Telephones News of Rescue ue z i Mr Petersen telephoned from th the Great Basin experiment station rescue headquarters to notify his family In Spring City The horsemen who left Ephraim Mond Monday y night g t and rode through heavy snow in the mountains all nih night night long long found the injured flier at 7 a. a m. m Samuel K Eck manager of Nephi Mt Pleasant and Ephraim- Ephraim Manti airports one of the fliers who dropped supplies t to Petersen Petersen Peter Peter- sen late Monday said he be flew over the scene Tuesday morning and saw the party of horsemen holding the youth on a horse Leslie Robinette range examiner reached by telephone at atthe atthe atthe the Great Basin experiment station said two of the horsemen spent the night at Alpine substation about five miles nearer the scene of the crash than the Great Basin station while the others continued the search all night When the flier was found one of the horsemen returned to the substation with word of the rescue Bed Prepared in Truck Sent to Hills BiDs It was planned to bring Petersen by horseback about seven miles mUes to a point above the Great Basin station where a crawler tractor pulling a pickup truck was making its way A bed had been prepared in the truck and Dr G.
