P Backman executive secretary secretary sec eec of the Salt Lake City chamber oft commerce announced Monday that there would be no automobile or tire tests on the salt flats of Great Salt lake until the summer of 1946 The salt flats are and will be covered with water until that time Mr Backman stated While there were no o definite plans to try and break existing speed or time records records rec rec- rec on the flats this year many famous drivers had been contemplating contemplating plating coming to Utah to start their careers again Mr Backman said They included Captain George Eyston who is ia still in the Royal air force and John Cobb famous British speedster Some tire companies had made plans to test postwar tires on the speedway speedway speed speed- way but they were abandoned because because be be- cause of the condition of the flats
