Show f I A Jot Jolt t to Property q Owners ners The 10 to to 25 per cent increase in real estate valuations in Utah ordered by the state tax commission is quite a jolt to property owners already apprehensive over impending sharp increases in tax levies The commission ordered city and town lots increased in value from 10 to 25 per cent in the various counties and it ordered unimproved farm lands and all other classes of real estate increased 10 per cent except for San Juan grazing lands Increased valuations will mean added revenue t to taxing units on the basis of their contemplated 1945 levies For in instance instance instance in- in stance the Salt Lake City school di district will receive about additional on its scheduled mill 17 levy The city will gain gahi about on its tentative mill 16 levy and the county will gain about on its contemplated levy Inasmuch as each of these taxing units is scheduling higher levies on the basis of considerably increased expenditures jt does not seem fair that they should benefit by this unexpected windfall of increased valuation The he least that they can do under the circumstances is to reduce their levi levies s proportionate to the increased revenue from higher valuations Otherwise the hard- hard pressed taxpayers will be hit twice this year year and and they might thereupon justifiably raise a doubly vociferous and politically significant ho howl l of protest |
