You Cant Can't Get Around the Figures I i PHE THE civil aeronautics board has granted Western Vestern Air Lines I I permission to operate an air route direct from Denver to toI Los Angeles via Grand Junction Colo and Las Vegas Nev I passing by-passing Salt Lake Cit City It is without question a blow to this city and its position as asa asa asa a major air transportation center for the west The C CAB A B in inI I making the announcement said the direct Los Denver-Los Angeles II route will cut off miles save 38 minutes in flying time and permit a reduction in the fare You cant can't get around figures like that Salt Lake tried its best as it should have to 19 hold the Los Angeles route despite the figures but all the arguments in the world cant can't stand up against the saving of miles 38 minutes and I Now where do we go from here There isn't any use crying crying cry cry- I ing over spilt milk When the Los Denver-Los Angeles route goes j i into operation the bulk of that traffic will be lost to Salt Lake LakeI City That's gone But just as we were at a geographic handicap handicap handicap handi handi- I cap in relation to the Los Angeles air traffic we have geographic geographic geo geo- graphic advantages in respect to other air traffic We Ve are still I ideally situated for main line through traffic straight across the I nation to and from San Francisco We Ve are arc ideally located as asI I the hub of air traffic in the interior west from Mexico to Canada Canada Cani Can Can- i ada and from the Rocky mountains to the Pacific coast states We Ve are in a wonderful central location in respect to Americas America's I I greatest scenic attractions Yellowstone attractions Yellowstone Rocky Mountain National National National Na Na- park Grand Canyon our own Bryce and Zion parks I Boulder dam Death Valley Yosemite and our own Great Salt Salti i I Lake What the future may hold in the way of air touring and ancl sightseeing no one knows knows but but if there is any future were we're I right in the middle of it I Weve We've still got plenty of advantages in the way of a natural I center for air transportation transportation plenty plenty to keep Salt Lake City i buzzing with air activity if we are on our toes to make the most of our natural advantages I We Ve have lost or will lose when operations begin a large j part of our Los Angeles traffic All right Its It's gone Lets Let's forI forget forget for for- get it and it-and and work the harder to retain and to expand the air I traffic to which we are naturally entitled
