Woodridge and agree with him that we should be friendly to Britain My business takes me to all parts of of the city and I have an opportunity of hearing the opinions opinions opinions ions of people about the war I have been very surprised during the last several months to hear constant criticism r of the Eng Eng- lish In fact I hear more against the English than against the tile Germans It seems there isn't anything the English do without being criticized It makes one wonder when the peace terms are brought up if the allies wont won't make the mistake mistake mistake mis mis- take they made in the last war and if we Americans wont won't try to isolate ourselves as we did be be- fore I have heard so-called so in intelligent intelligent intelligent in- in men make such re remarks remarks remarks re- re marks as interested in Europe 1 and We dont don't care what happens to Europe etc Well all I can say is if that's the attitude we want to take we wo had better prepare for another war 20 years fr from m now As a matter of fact whether we like it or not we have to be interested interest Interest- ed in Europe Airplanes have made isolation impossible and 20 years from now we may be inthe in inthe inthe the position that Britain was three years ago when Ge Germany many many- bombed Britain continuously and fortunately for Britain and I might add ourselves the Spitfires Spitfires Spit SpIt- fires tires saved the day I think we Americans had better look ahead It is a well- well known fact that our resources are dwindling d very rapidly It is said that the iron range from which 80 per cent of our richest iron ore comes will be depleted in 50 years also our oil Is being depleted very rapid rapid- ly Iy not to mention various other resources So far we have been lucky because we have had these resources but I wonder if it occurs to some people that the theda da day will come when we will have to import certain essential raw materials from other countries It is just possible that some day daya a powerful country will attack us and I wonder who we would call on for help I honestly b believe believe be be- lieve that the only people we could depend on would be the British They hey are really more like us than any other people There is no denying the fact that the source of this hatred for forthe forthe forthe the English is the history books Women could do much to do away with thus this hatred For instance Instance in instance In- In stance if the children come home from school criticizing the English their mother should explain explain explain ex ex- plain that the English h ar are arp our allies and that if it they must criticize to criticize the Germans Germans Germans Ger Ger- mans and the Japanese Certainly if it we and the British BritIsh British Brit Brit- ish do not make an attempt to be befriends befriends frIen friends and do not cooperate if it another nother war comes along the democracies may be defeated for good Remember we we had a d pretty pretty pretty pret pret- ty close call this time C.
