S Epperson 27 who was killed in n action in China July 30 1913 has been sent to his mother Mrs Ruby I. I Epperson by the war department it was disclosed Tuesday Tues Tues- day Lieutenant Epperson who was with other air force pilots tackled 53 Japanese planes on July 29 to prevent the bombing of an advanced advanced ad ad- U. U S. S air base at Hunan province lost his life the following day in another attack In addition to the medal Mrs Epperson also received a certificate certificate certificate cate from the war department which reads This is 18 to certify that the president of the United States of America pursuant to authority vested In him by congress congress con con- gress has awarded the purple heart established by General George Washington at Newburgh N N.
