| Show One of the Frills of Life THE THE suggestion of Attorney General Grover Glover A. A Giles who is also chairman of the civil protection committee ommittee of the state defense council that Pioneer day festivities be called off in the state for the duration of the war seems sensible Mr Giles suggested that although such fetes are p perfectly legal despite the war they are inadvisable while we have at our throats an adversary who realizes that the ultimate t I J r i in the struggle is is' either their existence or ours These huge celebrations are costly in money in time and in en energy There is reason to question whether in the midst of this critical critical critical cal war we can afford the luxury of such an Expenditure of our money and effort Right now just one thing is important to tous us us-to us to win the war And it is beginning to look as if it is going to take everything we have to do that job Of course that doesn't mean that we have to give up entirely our traditional observance of Pioneer day The day will still exist as asa asa asa a a time on which to pay honor to the pioneers and we can profit by that observance this year year drawing drawing from the legacy of indomitable courage and determination and sacrifice they left us inspiration to meet th the trials and perils and hardships of today But that observance ob ob- ob- ob servance and servance-and and enjoyment of the day more in keeping with old traditions traditions does does not require extravagant entertainment and festivity The celebrations of Pioneer day in Utah are just one of the little frills of life which we can easily do without while we concentrate concentrate concentrate concen concen- on the job of saving the country the established pioneers I v. v |
