Show Crowds Cheer 12 Bands In Salt Lake Parade S By PAUL BAUL STAPLES Thousands of feet beat time on sidewalks to the stirring tempo of such favorites as the Double Eagle March March- Over There and others as 12 bands played and marched Tuesday in Salt Lake City's Armistice day parade The white and gold clad Salt Lake Letter Carriers' Carriers band of 35 pieces directed by William C. C Thomas led other musical groups along the line of march march- winning many cheers Like the Salt Lake American Legion post No 2 drum and bugle corps the Letter Carriers' Carriers band had a girl for a drum major Miss Wilma Webb led the postal band and Miss Shirley Lemmon was drum major for the piece 32 legion le legion legion le- le gion drum and bugle corps University Band nand Plays Preceded by girls from the Spurs organization the piece 78 University of Utah band made a hit with the crowds Members wore bright scarlet and blue uniforms uniforms uniforms uni uni- forms and were led by Dean Bullock Bullock Bullock Bul Bul- lock drum major Always a favorite with parade crowds the trim Murray high school band led by pretty Marjorie Marjorie Marjorie Mar- Mar jorie Farrell as drum major was again popular Its 48 members wore orange and black uniforms The Magna-Garfield Magna American Legion junior drum and bugle corps was a popular group that again scored a hit The corps has 47 members and Gail Sadler ts Is drum major Six white and purple clad girls led the Granite high school band bandas as twirlers and Richard Bailey was the drum major This group played the Star Spangled Banner Banner Banner Ban Ban- ner while marching Children March l Irving junior high s school hool and the Arlington school in Murray were two schools entering bands comprised of young children Charlene Ward was drum major of the 50 pi 50 piece 50 piece ce Irving Irvin band and Merle Brown held the same position position position tion in the piece 29 Arlington band One of the larger bands was the piece 63 South high s school c h o 0 o 0 l 1 lR R ROT O 0 T C band led by Duane Wardie Wardle Wardle War- War dle die as drum major Clifford Husbands Husbands Husbands Hus Hus- bands was was drum major of the Sugarhouse American Legion post No 65 drum and bugle corps Adding a touch of novelty to the parade were the Salt Lake Tribune-city Tribune recreation department department department depart depart- ment harmonica band of 75 youthful youth youth- ful members and the piece 11 Utah Scottish bagpipe band Thelast The Thelast Thelast last group wore kilts |
