Bridge Hazard to Be Eliminated BOUT a week ago The Telegram published ABOUT a story concluding a series on traffic safety in Jn Utah county which told of several serious traffic hazards in the county which required action by the state road commission for their correction Chief hazard was on state highway called the Vineyard road More than a year ago agoan agoan agoan an old bridge on that highway collapsed The Theold Theold Theold old highway was blocked off by a flimsy iron fence at the point where the old bridge stood and detour signs were posted on either side However neither the detour signs nor the bridge guards were so that they could be readily seen at night A motorist unfamiliar unfamiliar un familiar with the road could easily follow the theold theold theold old highway drive through the guard fence and plunge so some e 20 feet into the Provo river bed It is an exceedingly hazardous spot as was proved by the picture published in n The Telegram Tele Telegram Telegram gram with the story Tuesday of this week the state road commission commission commission com com- mission announced that it would open bids July 2 on a project to build a new steel and concrete bridge at the spot Perhaps it was just coincidence that the action of the road commission com om commission com com- mission came so soon after revelation by The Telegram of the hazard Anyway coincidence or riot lot not the road commission is to be congratulated congratulated congratulated for speeding construction of the new span which will eliminate another dangerous traffic hazard on the states state's highway system
