Show I THE FLEET AL ALL RIGHT There is a very strong effort of late to make it appear that the battleships turned out by our navy department are inferior but Admiral Dewey Admiral Admiral Admi Admi- ral Schley and Admiral Evans all declare that the th ships are magnificent Evans says our fighting machines ma chines that have been designed the last few years gears show decided advantages over anything proposed abroad The inference is that the men who criticise the fleet are men who would prefer to be somewhere else than aboard the fleet were it called into action We think the American people can settle down to the belief that our ships are as good as anybody's and that they will not forget the fact either that some of the tho ships that Russia sent to Japanese waters were good ships but the trouble was with nth the tho men behind the guns Of course the American navy ought to keep up with the world but whether it does or not the navy will make good account of itself so long as the men behind the guns are the right kind |
