| Show RETIRED MINE IE OFFICIAL DIES Fr Frederick derick Lyon f former resident of Salt Lake City and retired vice president of the United States Smelting Refining and Mining company died Sunday in a New NewYork NewYork NewYork York hospital where he underwent an operation two weeks week ago according according according ac ac- ac- ac cording to word received Tuesday Born in Prague Czechoslovakia In 1862 Mr Lyon came to the United United United Unit Unit- ed States in 1888 H He was employed employed employed em em- at the engineering office of the Union Pacific Railroad company company com corn In Omaha for several pany any years and came to Salt Lake City as a civil engineer entering partnership wih with J. J Fewson Smith I Mr Lyon enlisted in the Spanish- Spanish American war and went to the Philippines On his return in 1899 he became engineer for the United States Smelting Refining and Mining Mining Min Mm- ing company in charge of its it survey survey survey sur sur- vey in Utah In 1904 he went to Bennett Cennett Cal Cal to take charge of the Jennett th company's copper mine and smelter smelter there He was elected vice president of the company in charge of all al its operations in the United States StatE and Mexico in 1907 and had his headquarters in Boston He re retired retired retired re- re tired from that position in 1918 Mr Lyon spent much of the thelast thelast thelast last 20 2 years abroad but made his home in New York during the te past year yer He was wa well wel known in Salt Lake City having been one of the te founders of the University club cub of which he was once president president dent dent He was an uncle of Channing Channing Chan- Chan ning Pollock the playwright but had no other relatives in this coun coun- try tr He never married |
