OCR Text I A Re Realty Really lly Fine Performance r r T HE annual show marking the end of another TUE A I summer playground recreation season in Salt Lake Like City which was held Monday night p a at the Community ball park was as a great suc- suc tf v. v cess from every standpoint V p A total of 1600 children and youths took p part pirt rt in it and it-and and that's that proof of success in itself for the fundamental aim of a recreation program program pro pro- gram Iram is to give youngsters youngsters' something to do to train them in hobbies hobbles or talents and tc to give them the opportunity to show off their ac ac- ac- ac So the cry fact that 1600 children took part in the show is prima facie fade evidence of success whether the performance was of particular merit or not f But in fact the show was very good Some Someo t o of it was of professional near caliber some of J f it 1 U t was very clever and humorous almost all J of it wa interesting to watch With 19 represented and each presenting anywhere from one to four acts acU depending on its size the show wasas wasas was wasas as colorful moving fast-moving and varied as a three- three ring circus There was a w weight lifter rope twirlers high bar gymnasts tumblers fencers boxers and wrestlers wrestler Then there were various arious comedy stunts such as a bull fight beauty and the beast comic dancers on skates jitterbug dancers bathing beauty contest a performing dog and sawing a girl in two There were a host of dancing and singing numbers including some fine tap dancing and chorus work an Indian war dance and a Bowe Bowery y dance In addition to the program itself itsell there were the tho sideshow attractions which were open before before be be- fore forc the show Each play field had one and the ingenuity of the youngsters in the various displays displays displays dis dis- dis- dis plays and stunts was noteworthy This years year's performance held for the first time time at aL the ball park was much better than before from the standpoint of staging lighting and seating arrangements for tor the audience Experience gained from this years year's experiment will insure an even more smooth running running and entertaining performance in future years There is reason to believe that in the future the grandstand will be filled to capacity with an appreciative audience That perhaps was the weakest point of the whole performance nance Monday Monday Monday Mon Mon- day night the night the smallness of the cr crowd wd of spectators spec spec- and and the lack of applause for the youngsters youngsters' young young- ders efforts It was no small task to tram train and gather together those 1600 participants in the show and to direct so smoothly the performance without one full rehearsal Congratulations are In order for Miss Jessie Schofield city suI su u- u I of recreation Joe assistant superintendent Wayne Simper Elcanor Eleanor Elea- Elea nor nor B me and Verne Waldo the committee in inc c Charge and every one of the 46 members of the city recreation staff the 30 W P A and nd 30 N Y A recreation aids I J They proved to all those who attended the show that the city's recreation department is eally performing a worthwhile service in di- di eding summer activity and healthful play for many thousands of the city's school children
